Evolving Heritage Conservation Practice in the 21st Century

This book focuses on current trends in cultural heritage conservation and their influence on heritage practice. Seen through the lenses of World Heritage, historic urban landscapes, heritage tourism, climate change or the nature/culture nexus, these challenges call for innovative approaches to protect and conserve our heritage places. The book brings together the voices of different stakeholders in the heritage conservation process, ranging from scholars, site managers and government officials to young professionals and students.

Christina Cameron held the Canada Research Chair in Built Heritage at the University of Montréal from 2005 to 2019 where she directed a research program on heritage conservation. She previously worked in Parks Canada's cultural heritage programs for more than thirty-five years. Her involvement with World Heritage began in 1987, chairing the committee in 1990 and 2008 and co-authoring Many Voices, One Vision: The Early Years of the World Heritage Convention (2013). In 2007, she received the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Public Service of Canada, the country's highest recognition for public service. In 2014, she was named to the Order of Canada and, in 2018, was awarded the Prix du Québec Gérard-Morisset for her contributions to heritage conservation in Canada and abroad. She is a founding member of OurWorldHeritage.
