Proceedings of the First International Conference on Aeronautical Sciences, Engineering and Technology - Proceedings of ICASET 2023

This volume contains forty-one revised and extended research articles, written by prominent researchers participating in the International Conference on Aeronautical Sciences, Engineering and Technology 2023, held in Muscat, October 3-5 2023. It focuses on the latest research developments in aeronautical applications, avionics systems, advanced aerodynamics, atmospheric chemistry, emerging technologies, safety management, unmanned aerial vehicles, and industrial applications. This book offers the state of the art of notable advances in engineering technologies and aviation applications and serves as an excellent source of reference for researchers and graduate students.

Dr. Abid Ali Khan in his current assignment at Military Technological College is working as Head Aeronautical Engineering Department.  He is a Principal Fellow of Higher Education Academy, Fellow of Institute of Mechanical Engineers UK and Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, USA. In addition to his teaching and academic management responsibilities, he conducts research in collaboration with different scholars around the world.  His publications in reputed international journals and presented work at international conferences reflect his interest in Aircraft Design, Structural Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, Renewable Energy, Aeroelasticity and Management of Higher Education etc. Dr Abid during his long professional career undertook and completed several important and demanding projects.  He started his career as an Aeronautical Engineer and assumed different roles and responsibilities in aircraft industry such as, Aircraft Designer, Chief Engineer Production and eventually decided to impart knowledge gained in the industry in Higher Educational Institutions. He has been part of two aircraft design teams as a structure designer. He has been part of the National Curriculum Review Committee for Aerospace Engineering, Higher Education Commission Pakistan. He led the Aerospace Engineering Department at National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan and later Aeronautics & Astronautics Department at Institute of Space Technology, Pakistan as Head of Department.  Recognizing his contributions to the Aeronautical Engineering community he is accepted as Chartered Engineer by UK Engineering Council, along with Professional Engineer, Engineering Program Evaluator and Convener Engineering Program Accreditation by Pakistan Engineering Council.  He played a vital role to prepare HEIs to acquire Washington Accord Recognition for Pakistani Engineering Programs.  Through ICASET 2023 his aim is to develop collaborations between local and international stakeholders of the Aeronautical Engineering Society.
Dr. Mohammad Sayeed Hossain joined the Military Technological College Oman in 2014 and works as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, with a balance of teaching, research, administrative and management roles. He has completed his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Bristol, UK in 2005, and has developed his research expertise in residual stress analyses in measurements (neutron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, incremental center-hole drilling, deep-hole drilling) and simulations using finite element analysis (FEA). He has worked and managed several academic and industrial projects involving residual stresses and their effects on part distortion in aerospace industry, creep degradation in power generation sector, and on life extension of ageing plants. He applied different approaches to optimize measurement techniques and advised on the use of FEA concurrent to stress measurement for safety critical components. He was involved in VEQTER-UK stress database from design and development stages to its implementation. He has also carried out consultancy work for Japan Nuclear Safety Organization (JNES), EDF Energy, and James Fisher Nuclear Ltd. For his professionalism, Dr Mohammad was awarded Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (CEngMIMechE) since 2014; and Senior Fellow of the Advance HE (SFHEA) since 2020 for his leadership in higher education.
Dr. Mohammad Fotouhi is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft. He has a strong research background in engineering materials, composites, and structures. And He is recognized for his leadership in Hybrid Composites development in the HiPerDuCT program, a UK research council grant, and for securing research grants as a principal investigator, including leading UK research council grants and industrial projects related to SHM (Structural Health Monitoring) of composite structures. Dr Fotouhi has also worked in industry for three years on R&D activities related to engineering materials. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his research, including two research excellence awards from the University of Glasgow, and being nominated as the best researcher of the year at the University of the West of England's aerospace department. Dr Fotouhi also serves as an editorial board member for international journals such as Composite Materials and Journal of Engineering and Technology.
Dr. Axel Steuwer is an experienced R&I professional with a proven track record of research and innovation management with over 20 years involvement in the quadruple helix of academia, industrial R&I, large-scale research infrastructure and public authorities in various EU countries. He is skilled in science strategy/administration and innovation policy, lobbying and advocacy, project management, capacity building, resource mobilization (fund-raising) on local, regional and EU level, as well as stakeholder engagement and outreach. Also he has a strong educational background with a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and extensive background working with industrial R&D&I.
Anwar Khan is a Research Fellow at the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group (ACRG), University of Bristol. He completed his Ph.D. from the same university in 2008 under the guidance of Professor Dudley E. Shallcross. He worked as a Marie Curie Post-doctoral Fellow in the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (IMAU), Utrecht University (2012-2013) and as a Visiting Associate Researcher in the Department of Geography, University of California Berkeley (2009-2011). His research mainly involves the development of the global STOCHEM and regional mesoscale WRF-Chem models for atmospheric composition and climate studies using CRI (Common Representative Intermediate) methodologies. His research also involves investigating the pathways for removal of persistent atmospheric pollutants, mitigating the impact of climate change by changing the fuels in aircraft, managing indoor air quality for healthy living, and constraining the uncertainty in the Earth system response to hydrogen emissions.
