Proceedings of the 9th Asian Joint Workshop on Thermophysics and Fluid Science, 27-30 November 2022, Utsunomiya, Japan - Asian Research in Thermal and Fluid Sciences

This book is a collection of the best peer-reviewed papers presented at the ninth Asian joint workshop on thermophysics and fluid science organized in Utsunomiya, Japan, in November 2022. The book is a valuable addition to the conference series started in the year 2006, with contents that include the research outputs from Asian countries-India, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Some of the papers are collaborative efforts by academicians from these countries.
The book provides an overview of recent research in the fields of fluid and thermal engineering. The chapters in the book deal with research problems on aerodynamics, propulsion, transonic and supersonic flows, aero-acoustics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, combustion, heat and mass transfer, and turbomachinery. Analytical, experimental, and numerical approaches are employed in the chapters. This volume will benefit academicians, researchers, and students working on research problems in thermal and fluid sciences.

Abhilash Suryan works at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering Trivandrum, India. He received his B. Tech. and M. Tech. in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering Trivandrum and his Ph.D. from Andong National University in the Republic of Korea. He also holds the title Ing. Paed. IGIP from the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy. His current areas of interest include aerospace engineering, compressible fluid flow, renewable energy, and engineering pedagogy. He is a life member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). He is a member of the editorial boards of the international journals Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects and the Journal of Thermal Science. He was selected as the researcher of the year by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala, India, in 2019.
Minoru Yaga is a professor at theDepartment of Mechanical Systems Engineering, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan. He received his B. Eng. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering, University of the Ryukyus, Japan, in 1984. He received his M. Eng. and Ph.D. from the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering sciences, Kyushu University, Japan, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He was a visiting associate at the California Institute of Technology in 1994-1995. His major research topics include development of high performance of submerged water jets, active control of oscillating shockwaves in a diffuser, behavior of propagating shock waves in an elliptical cell, and mixing enhancement of jets with a main supersonic flow.
Han Seo Ko received his B.S. degree from Yonsei University, the Republic of Korea, in 1990, and his M. S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University, USA, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. In 2001, he joined the facultyof the School of Mechanical Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, the Republic of Korea, following work as a research fellow at the University of Tokyo, Japan. He is interested in flow control, microfluidics, optical tomography, air/water plasma control, micro-droplet ejection, and heat and mass control. He has hosted more than five research projects on multiphase flow by electromagnetics, water purification systems, electric propulsion systems, and heat transfer for wafer batch systems by the National Research Foundation and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Republic of Korea. He has published more than 90 papers in international journals.
Guang Zhang received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Three Gorges University, China, in 2012 and dual M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, China, and Andong National University, the Republic of Korea, in 2015. He then received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineeringfrom Andong National University, the Republic of Korea, in 2018. Currently, he is an associate professor in mechanical engineering in Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, China. He has rich experience in the experimental and numerical study of compressible flows in gas dynamics and cavitation flows in fluid machinery. His research interests include shock wave dynamics, flow measurement, micro pressure waves induced by high-speed trains, particle erosion, and cryogenic cavitation. He has hosted more than five research projects on particle erosion and cryogenic cavitation provided by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang (NSFZ), respectively.
