The book expounds the current research and development trend of intelligent safety technology of automobile, and analyzes and excavates the new safety technology to the automobile. It introduces the basic theory, core method, key technology, main system, test evaluation and innovation practice of intelligent safety of automobile for readers, providing a certain theoretical and practical basis for the safety development of the automobile.
This book is elaborated from the perspective of the driver-vehicle-road system. The traffic accidents are divided into three stages for discussion: before, during and after the collision. This book constructs a new systematic structure for Safety theory and technical system of several key links, including system safety, operation safety, intelligent protection and safety evaluation.  It will be a useful reference for researchers and practitioners in the field of automobile engineering and auto pilot.


Jianqiang Wang received his B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees from Jilin University of Technology (now part of Jilin University), Changchun, China, in 1994 and 1997, respectively, and Ph.D. from Jilin University, Changchun, China, in 2002. He is currently a Professor and the Party Secretary with the School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation of China for Distinguished Young Scholars, an distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholar, Ministry of Education, China, and has been part of the national high-level Talent Program, Ministry of Education, China. He serves as: 1) Associate Director of State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy, 2) Director of Tsinghua University-Didi Joint Research Center for Future Mobility, 3) Associate Director of Joint Laboratory of Internet of Vehicles, Ministry of Education and China Mobile Communications Group Corporation, 4) Executive Editor of the Journal of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, and 5) Associate Editor of IET Intelligent Transport Systems. 
He is an international renowned expert in the field of intelligent safety of vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, and intelligent vehicles. He has been conferred more than 10 scientific and technological awards, including the second prizes of two National Technological Invention Awards, the second prizes of two National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, and the first prize of one Technological Invention Award and Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Ministry of Education, separately. He has authored over 150 SCI/EI-indexed international journal articles, and is a co-holder of 100 invention patents. He is a recipient of the Best Paper Awards in multiple international academic conferences and top-tier journals, Distinguished Young Scientists of China Automobile Industry (2004), Beijing Science and Technology Talents (2007), New Century Excellent Researchers (2008), Young and middle-aged innovative leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology (2018), etc.

Bingbing Nie received her BSc (2007) from Tsinghua University, MSc (2009) from RWTH-Aachen, Germany and Ph.D. (2013) from Tsinghua University. She is currently an Associate Professor at School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
Before joining Tsinghua University in 2016, Dr. Nie worked as a Visiting Scholar in General Motors R&D (2012-2013), and as a Research Associate at University of Virginia (2013-2016).
Her research areas include applied biomechanics, vehicle safety, human-vehicle interaction and smart occupant protection. 
She has co-authored more than 60 technical papers is a co-inventor of more than 15 patent applications. She has also served as Session Organizer of Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety of SAE World Congress, Secretary of SAE Vehicle Safety Technical Committee, IRCOBI Scientific Review Committee Member, AAAM Scientific Program Committee Member and China-Sweden CTS Scientific Committee Member.
She was a recipient of Young Scholar of Distinction of Tsinghua in 2022, the first prize of Beijing Young Teachers' Basic Teaching Skills Competition and the Best Demonstration Award, the second prize of Chongqing Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the Best Oral Presentation Award at COTA conference in 2021, the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by CAST in 2018.

Hong Wang is currently an Associate Research Professor at the school of Vehicle and Mobility with Tsinghua University. From the year 2015 to 2019, she worked at University of Waterloo as postdoc. She received her Ph.D. degree in Beijing Institute of Technology in China in 2015. She has been selected for the 2020 Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program by the China Association for Science and Technology.
Her research focuses on the decision-making for autonomous vehicles and the safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF). She has published more than 60 papers in high-level academic journals and conferences in the automotive field. She has presided over or participated in more than 10 research projects as a backbone in recent years. She is currently the executive deputy leader of the CAICV SOTIF Technical Alliance. Her main academic part-time positions include Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, Youth Communication Expert for Engineering, and Scientific Editor for Automotive Innovation.
